MASON CITY – The sweet juices of victory finally dribbled down the chins of Mason City High School football fans after the Mohawks laid a beating on the Ottumwa Bulldogs, 28-17, Friday night.
The final home game of the season produced a most savoring triumph for the hapless Mohawks on Senior Night, who went 0-9 in 2018. The win snapped an 18-game losing streak for Mason City, which finishes the season 1-8.
Ottumwa (2-7) scored 17 points in the first quarter, but a relentless Mohawk squad stayed in the game and finally overtook the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter with two late scores, including a long interception for a touchdown.
