Lib’s dancing with glee after new poll showing Joni Ernst tanking

Joni Ernst: Will struggle in 2020?

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Iowa is still standing as “likely Republican” in the crucial 2020 election for U.S. Senator, but a new poll showing Joni Ernst struggling with voters has liberals dancing with glee.

Progress Iowa is a multi-issue liberal “progressive” advocacy organization who, in their words, “will continue to hold Senator (Joni) Ernst accountable for selling out to special interests and leaving Iowans behind. Year-round, Progress Iowa advocates for a stronger middle class, first-class public education, and fairness for all Iowans under the law.”

Today, Progress Iowa’ Matt Sinovic sent a bulletin proclaiming Ernst was struggling in a new poll:

After a series of tough town hall appearances facing questions about health care and impeachment, Senator Joni Ernst is reeling in a new poll of Iowa voters that shows she’s among the 10 most unpopular Senators in the country.

Morning Consult’s most recent quarterly approval ratings for U.S. Senators shows that Ernst’s approval rating dropped by nine percentage points, falling to just thirty nine percent approval compared to forty three percent disapproval. That was the largest decline in approval rating among any Senator in the country. Today’s poll comes on the heels of a series of contentious town hall meetings where Ernst faced tough questions from Iowans about her stances on health care, social security, and whether she believes President Trump is above the law.

Progress Iowa Executive Director Matt Sinovic issued the following statement in response to today’s polling:

“Joni Ernst has told us she wants to make closed door decisions about Social Security. She won’t say if foreign interference in American elections is a bad idea. She openly admitted to voting for removing healthcare from Iowa families. And she continues to take in millions from special interest groups. It should be no surprise that Iowans don’t approve of the job she’s doing. We deserve better and Ernst deserves to be held accountable for selling us out.”

Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst, who has already faced a cascade of negative advertising, saw a drop of 9 percentage points — the biggest decline in net approval for any senator. The slide places her underwater with Iowa voters (39 percent approve and 43 percent disapprove) for the first time and among the 10 most unpopular senators in the country.

Iowa voters of all partisan leanings soured on the first-term senator, but GOP voters were most likely to take a dimmer view of her job performance. Her net approval dropped by 13 points among Republicans, compared with respective 9- and 7-point drops among Democrats and independents.
