Downtown Fort Dodge, Iowa
FORT DODGE – Police in Fort Dodge are investigating what appears to be a murder, after a man was found dead suffering from multiple gunshot wounds after a drug deal gone bad, and one dangerous fugitive is being sought.

On Friday, October 11 at approximately 8:05 PM, the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a call in reference to shots fired in the 1400 Block of A Street West in Fort Dodge. Initial information received also indicated that a subject may have been injured. Officers with the Fort Dodge Police Department, along with the Fort Dodge Fire Department and the Webster County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

When law enforcement and emergency personnel arrived, they located an unresponsive adult male in the area. It was determined that the male victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel began medical treatment on scene, however the injuries sustained were too severe and the male was pronounced dead. At this time, the identity of the male will not be released pending assurance that all family members have been appropriately notified.

Officers and Investigators with the Fort Dodge Police Department are currently conducting a homicide investigation in regards to this incident.

Investigators continued to work through the night tracking down information in regards to this case.
Multiple individuals were contacted and other evidence collected. Police shared the identity of the victim as 28‐year‐old Mohammed Yaqoub of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It is believed that Mohammed was visiting the area when this occurred and does not reside in or around Fort Dodge.

As the investigation progressed throughout the evening, it became apparent that those individuals involved had arranged to meet one another prior to this incident occurring for a narcotics transaction. The area where this happened appears to have no significance other than simply being a place to meet.

At this point in the investigation, one individual has been arrested and law enforcement is seeking another. A 16‐year‐old male from Fort Dodge was arrested early this morning on the following charges:
*Aiding and Abetting Robbery in the First Degree (B Felony). Due to the offender’s age, he was transported to the Central Iowa Detention Center in Eldora to await further court proceedings. His name will not be released at this time.

Saturday afternoon, arrest warrants were issued for 19‐year‐old Damion Lamont Chavez of Fort Dodge. Law enforcement is currently attempting to locate Mr. Chavez on his outstanding arrest warrants for:

– Murder in the First Degree (A Felony)
– Robbery in the First Degree (B Felony)

Chavez is described as an African American male, standing approximately 5’11” tall, weighing approximately 185 pounds. Webster County Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the direct whereabouts and apprehension of Mr. Chavez. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
