Alleged drunk driver crashes into police car, sends K9 and officer to medics

CEDAR RAPIDS – An Iowa man was arrested after crashing his car into a parked police cruiser and now faces a drunk driving charge.

At 11:20 PM on October 4, a Cedar Rapids police officer and his K9 partner had completed a traffic stop on I-380 northbound between Wilson and 33rd Ave SW. They were waiting for the stopped car to drive away. A pickup driven by 37-year-old Michael Brown struck the squad car disabling both vehicles.

As a result of the collision, the officer was taken to the hospital as a precaution where he was treated and released. Both he and his K9 partner are medically cleared and back to full duty.

Brown was charged with unsafe approach to certain stationary vehicles and Operating while intoxicated.
