“Iowa’s fiscal health is strong, and it’s a reflection of a vibrant economy as well as our ability to live within our means,” said Gov. Reynolds. “This year, we invested in important priorities like education, Future Ready Iowa, and health care so that we can be innovative, grow our workforce, and protect vulnerable Iowans. Going forward, we will continue to invest in Iowans’ priorities, but we also must be mindful of the economic headwinds in our agricultural economy and be prepared for whatever the future might hold. Fiscal responsibility and maintaining our state’s fiscal health will remain a top priority for my administration.”
FY 2019 closed on June 30th, but the accrual period officially ends on September 30th. During this time, Iowa closes the books and pays out and receives outstanding obligations. Last year’s budget surplus was $127 million dollars.
Sounds good but is it the true reality. As a whole the statewide economy is vibrant to who? Certainly it is not reflective in Mason City. Nor the rural countryside. The only thing vibrant here is the story line. No thank you.
Iowa is near dead last in economic growth (we’re ranked forty-something in the country).
Give it back to tax payers in refund
For certain don’t spend a dime of this money on roads, bridges or any infrastructure. PLEASE give away to the school teachers. And libraries too.

What’s a library? a money pit and A collection of old books that can all be found on line. Library’s are un-necessary and un-needed.
Ah, so you haven’t ever been in a library? Those books you sneer at? Try reading one sometime. You might learn something and, if you would go into a library, you would find that not all books are “on-line” and that a library offers them for free. It is called ‘learning’ something you obviously know nothing about.
How old are you? 65+? Libraries are a tremendous waste of taxpayer money now days.
A repository for knowledge is never a waste of money.
Give that money to all the schools in our state!
Reduce the wages of overpaid teachers, Cut schools back to what they should be. Stop all bullshit unneeded courses and get rid of un-needed extra administrators.
