The department continues to investigate the shots fired incident reported in the early morning of Saturday, September 21st.
Since the investigation began there have been search warrants served at two residences and two vehicles in Mason City. Officers have seized several firearms, narcotics, ammunition, shell casings and other physical evidence related to this investigation.
Additionally, four people have been arrested during the course of the investigation:
– Jonathan Allen Scott (20) for interference with official acts
– Mario Francisco Garza Jr. (26) for carrying weapons
– Donavan James Ward (18) for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance in a correctional institution and unlawful consumption of alcohol. Ward also had a warrant for serious assault from a previous incident.
– Shyniece Shanell Ward (19) for a failure to appear warrant
At this time it is undetermined if anyone was struck by gunfire in the Saturday incident or if the blood found at the scene was from a physical assault. No one has identified themselves as a victim to the police.
This investigation remains active and anyone with information about the shots fired call should contact the Mason City Police Department.
We seem to have law enforcement that can’t or are unable to handle the increased criminal activity in this town. It is only going to get worse. These thugs know this. Lord help River City!

There will always be “Russ Hardys” to rent to thugs. It’s our city officials fault for not enforcing him to keep his properties up. Turn in properties to the housing authority to investigate property and turn in renters if you believe violations are taking place. Plus many of these renters get help paying portion of rent from the housing authority or section 8. Mainly for disabled or single mothers with children…if you believe more people are living there then should be, turn into the housing authority to investigate. The city gets a kickback for section 8 allowing these people to live here, so the city isn’t going to on their own enforce up keep risking losing kickbacks… so the only way Is to officially turn properties and renters of the properties in.

Mattie, why did you delete my comment about SLUMLOARD Russel Hardy? He brought those SCUMBAGS here just like the rest of his properties. They live off taxpayers money and bring drugs here and all the problems we are having in River City!
