WAUKON, IOWA – A Northern Iowa man’s pickup was engulfed in flames as he climbed a water tower at the local sheriff’s office and removed his clothing, authorities say,
On the evening of August 27, 2019 at 7:15 PM, the Allamakee County Sheriff’s 911 Dispatch Center received a report of a vehicle fire on Iron Mine Drive in Allamakee County. Upon arrival Sheriff’s Deputies observed a 1999 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck on fire and fully engulfed. The vehicle was unoccupied and the owner of the vehicle 34-year-old Ryan Daniel Peters of Waukon, Iowa was not located at the scene. The vehicle fire was extinguished by the Waukon Fire Department.
On August 27, 2019 at 9:05 PM, an Allamakee County Sheriff’s Deputy was contacted by telephone and received a report that Ryan Daniel Peters had climbed onto the water tower located at the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office and Jail at 877 Highway 9, Waukon, Iowa approximately 1 mile from the location of the vehicle fire. Upon arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies and Officers observed Peters on the water tower approximately sixty five feet off the ground. Peters refused to come down from the water tower and then removed all of his clothing. Deputies and Officers attempted to talk Peters into coming down from the water tower. After approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes Peters did come down from the water tower and was taken into custody. Peters was arrested and charged with 1 count of Trespass and 1 count of Interference with Official Acts, both simple misdemeanor charges. Peters remains in the Allamakee County Jail awaiting arraignment.
