MITCHELL, IOWA – A Charles City couple was seriously injured in motorcycle accident in Mitchell county.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place Friday, August 24 around 3:40 PM in Mitchell, Iowa. John Carpenter, age 34 of Charles City, was driving a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle with a passenger, 32-year-old Ashley Carpenter, on West Main Street and East Commercial Street. As he negotiated a left hand turn, Carpenter lost control of the motorcycle and it exited the roadway. The passenger was ejected and landed in the west ditch. The motorcycle struck multiple trees and the driver was also ejected into the west ditch as the motorcycle come to rest on top of the driver, the report states.
Both Carpenters sustained serious injuries. John Carpenter was taken by Mercy Air to Mercy Hospital in Mason City. Ashley Carpenter was taken by ground ambulance to an Osage hospital.
The accident remains under investigation.
