MASON CITY – A Mason City man is behind bars, accused of stalking and violating a no-contact order.
Jon Christopher Pete, age 52, was booked into the Cerro Gordo county jail Wednesday afternoon after a judge issued an arrest warrant that day. Pete is accused of stalking a Mason City woman; sources tell NIT he has “terrorized” her and has relentlessly stalked her for some time. He is also accused of more than one violation of a no-contact order, which carries a 7-day jail sentence for each instance. Pete is also accused by Mason City police of harassment after an incident in June.
Pete remains in the Cerro Gordo county jail, awaiting a court appearance.

Pete was arrested on Sat evening, first showed no bond and stalking charge, then was changed to contempt and violation of NCO with 2000 bond.. which he bonded out on Sunday.. WHY the hell does the judges allow this predator back on the street!!???!!

Easy case. A NCO means no contact. If he continually goes against the law, there are consequences. It doesn’t matter if the victim has issues or if the stalker has issues. He clearly knew what was expected of him. No respect for the law. Pretty scary.
Well as predicted Mr. Pete now has warrant for another violation. Now will he again be given the opportunity to post a hefty cash bond. And before people say he not getting special treatment, there are many who sit because finally denied bail due to they continually repeat the offense. Sick of people trying to blame the victim.
The substance abuse issue is not accurate at all. I have know her for years, shes not that person, she works hard to support her family and home! And why again after this last NCO violation is he not in jail with NO BOND!! Look up his history where he has lived before.. this is not his first rodeo.. he deserves all he can be sentenced to on all of these charges!
For the second time now you have stated that if a victim might have prior substance abuse issues or mental health issues, that it’s ok to abuse, stalk, threaten, or harass them. The lawyer can present whatever he wants so long as it is relevant to the case, but you will never in this great country hear a judge say it’s ok to harm another individual because they may have a history of mental illness or substance abuse problems.
Everyone has a past and everyone has lifelong issues, but that does not qualify them to be harmed by another individual. I’m most certain this man’s lawyer would agree to that. I would almost bet this attorney probably can’t wait till this ordeal is over because his client continues to make it harder and harder to build a defense.
It is my opinion that this case has not been treated normally compared to others and that is certainly documented in our legal system.
As for his mother, it is you that seems to be bringing her up. Stop making her part of your equation every time you post because you are not doing this woman any favors here.
There is nothing to gain here politically or financially here for those who post to this open forum on this particular topic. I’m confident that his mother would agree that the people deserve to voice their views on our laws and that we deserve to have leaders to represent us, otherwise she wouldn’t be in the position she is holding.
Bottom line is, No means No…. We have laws and they were not to designed on the basis that they can be broken if another person has a disability. This man and his attorney can use whatever argument they choose to as an attempt to lessen his sentence, but ultimately it is up to the jury and judge.
It’s really not so complicated here. When the law says stay away, you do so. When anyone goes against a legal order, there is a consequence. The laws are not designed to be broken in the event that the victim might have an issue. Mr. Pete was was charged by our local law enforcement based on evidence.

It also appears that you want Sharon Streckman to be responsible for this adult mans behavior and actions. He is an adult and solely responsible for himself. These are misdemeanors and reported like anyone else’s would be. He is given bond like others have. He has yet to be convicted of these charges, if he is convicted and he continues, then yes they can “no bond” him. Media has reported this as normally they would. The media has not over reported or under reported this, which is exactly what news sources are supposed to be, unbiased. The mental health and substance abuse statements of the victim are not bs. Like I said I don’t condone this mans behavior. But the victims life long struggles with her issues are also documented and will also be a factor. Any lawyer will normally present those and it won’t have anything to do with who his mother is. So far this case has been treated and reported as any other case would be. The only person who seems to be dragging his mother into this is the poster that has. Looking like they have a personal vendetta against the mother for political or financial gain.
Not defending this man or saying he’s not displaying dangerous behavior at all but there are always 2 sides to every story. The lady being “stalked” seems to have mental health issues along with substance abuse issues, she seems to of left a path of life long destruction with her family, her children, previous boyfriends and employers. There is way more to this than one man characterized as “crazy” TV does not usually report misdemeanors, other local news has reported on it as normal as any other case. Those of you wanting more publicity due to the fact of who his mother is, is just as hypocritical as those saying it’s not being reported. No one deserves to be stalked, harassed, bullied, and threatened as much as this woman has and still is by Mr. Pete!
Stop trying to make this woman out to be the monster here and stick to what is right. Each and every one of us have had our fair share of lousy relationships, family issues, and stressors, but that does not qualify us to be stalked, threatened, or harassed.
As for the media, KIMT has loyalties and it is not with the good people who reside in this community. They had no problems blasting the girl who sent over 700 text messages to a North Iowa man. Yet, Mr. Pete can send messages to this poor woman at a rate of 60 messages per hour, goes to her home, goes to her work, follows her child, follows her family, and then shares it all on social media; all of this is documented and proven.
I for one am not looking for extra amounts of publicity because of who his mother is. Some people here in this community are not so lucky like Mr. Pete. Most violators get extended stays in county for cracking a rat from down the street from their victim and yet Mr. Pete keeps getting out over and over again. The people want to be treated fairly. The rules should be the same for all offenders.
Maybe those closest to Mr. Pete might stop looking for excuses for his reckless behavior and abuse problems and stop re-victimizing the victim and get this man to some help and when I say help, I am not suggesting to keep bailing him out of jail so he can continue to break the rules and giving him kudos for every time he bashes this girl and those associated with her on social media.
Stop looking down your noses at those who don’t meet your standards and suck it up like everyone else has to and accept that his actions are inappropriate and will never stop until his enablers accept it and commit to a change. Rehabilitation is not a show for the people, but lifelong commitment.
I hope that one day this victim and her family will one day feel safe again and Mr. Pete will committ to rehabilitation.
Wow. No where did I read that anyone was defending this man, they even said his behaviors were dangerous. Only stated there are 2 sides to every story. I’m sure if both parties have mental health and/or substance abuse issues, dangerous behaviors documented the lawyers for both parties will be able to present those facts. They Also wish both parties be safe and get the help they need. He doesn’t appear to be getting any special treatment as one person suggests. They even go as far to say it wasn’t reported in the news, but it had been. The media doesn’t appear to have over reported this or under reported it. One is upset that he isn’t being held in jail, suggesting that is special treatment because of who his mother is. But he has been arrested and taken to jail, been given bail amounts as any other person would be. If a person can post bail they can post it getting out until court date. I agree, I can’t say I have ever seen coverage on a criminals parents. However, if you do a bit of research, you will find that there are people who actually have to sit in jail for a long time and given no opportunity to bail out as many times as this guy has.

Anyone who knows this guy, will tell you that he uses his mothers position to his benefit or to intimidate others.
His charges are misdemeanors. Most offenses have set bail amounts, they are the same amounts for every person charged with that crime. If their crime has a set bail amount they have the opportunity to post it getting out until court date. If a person sits in jail it is usually because they are unable to post the bail amount. There are certain crimes that have no bail, his are not so far.

Might I suggest that she employ someone that can look into Jon’s social media accounts? Specifically, what’s been deleted. They may find it very interesting. I’m sure both lawyers will be looking into both of their histories, this lady’s history is none the better either. 2 people with bad decisions, behaviors = nothing good but destruction.
Looking into histories won’t help Mr. Pete’s case as he has a criminal record and the victim does not. Your equation is reasonable and it happens in many relationships. However, this guy is in the system because the law said stay away and he chooses over and over again to break the law.

BTW, your mom, Sharon Steckman, should be able to find resources for your counseling since she is a state Democratic Representative for our area.

KIMT did not want to run the story claimed they don’t run stories like this because they are just misdemeanors. Funny if this was anyone else it would make the news. I think its sad that his victim is going to continue to be victimized.

Normally misdemeanors aren’t reported on the TV news. No special treatment going on in this case. The globe and NIT have both reported it in their news before any of you stared complaining on here. I don’t know this man or his mother but how do any of you know she isn’t helping her son get counseling? You don’t, you People are trying to spin this a certain way for your own benefit.
The Globe actually made a lame attempt at covering this story with information at first that was incorrect. The only thing the Globe acccomplished was re-victimizing the victim and caused everyone involved more pain and suffering. Whatever they can do to sell thier over priced and poorly written paper.
