Ex-boyfriend determined to be killer in Bancroft death investigation

DES MOINES – An ex-boyfriend shot himself to death in Bancroft, and the two other persons found dead in a house there also died of gunshot wounds, authorities say.

On July 12th, 2019 at about 8:13 am, the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting two deceased individuals at 524 S. Morehouse Street in Bancroft, Iowa. Officers with the Bancroft Police Department were dispatched to the residence and located a third deceased individual that was initially not visible to the reporting party.

Victims have now been identified as Mason Alrik Cederwall, age 22, and Amy Lynn Manna, age 30. Manna was a resident of 524 S. Morehouse Street in Bancroft, Iowa. The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the cause of death for both Cederwell and Manna to be homicide and the manner of death gunshot wounds.

The third body was determined to be Austin James Bernhard, age 30, of 303 S. Summit, Bancroft, Iowa. Bernhard’s cause of death was determined to be suicide and manner of death was a single gunshot wound. It was determined that Bernard was Manna’s ex-boyfriend. Austin Bernhard was arrested on July 4, 2019, for assault and burglary charges in an incident involving the two victims.
