Construction underway on new Kwik Star convenience store in Mason City.

Construction began on the evening of July 8, 2019.

MASON CITY – Construction has started on a new Kwik Star convenience store and gas station in Mason City.

Demolition of the Wooze’s Car Wash, which operated for decades at 1502 South Federal Avenue in Mason City, was completed back in December of 2018.  Online records show Kwik Trip, Inc. bought the property owned by Specialty Car Wash (Wooze’s) on or around May 24, 2018 for $293,000.00. This paved the way for the eventual construction of a new gas station and convenience store at the location.

Kwik Star is building new stores or have already completed them all over the area, including Clear Lake (with a second one planned there), Spirit Lake, Estherville, Forest City and yet another one for Mason City near Walmart.

The store now under construction in Mason City will likely open in late October of this year and employ up to 30 people. A large square area in the former parking lot for the long-gone Target store in the Southport Shopping Center was cut out first by a construction crew. Earth-moving equipment showed up Monday evening to break up the hard surface and begin moving dirt.  The store will bring a much-needed small-scale grocery service to the south side of town, which has been long under-served.

I too am looking forward to having a Kwik Star basically to get the “Top Tier” gas. When YesWay started with CENEX gas it was Top Tier but then the CENEX part of the sign came down it was gone.

I will still visit my nearby YesWay to get a fountain pop, lotto tickets, etc… but not gasoline. Plus the store near me has had a large turnover in help so the “friendly faces” that knew me are no longer there and my big pet peeve is the worker who sits on the milk crates who can juuuust reach the buttons on the register so she doesn’t need to get up.

I’m going to visit the NISS construction sites to see if any of the employees are smoking pot. I’m going to say before I go, that they are not smoking pot on the job.

It’s about time Mason City got some competition for Casey’s. I have always found Kwik Star stores having a better selection, are much cleaner, better organized, and a more pleasant and helpful staff. They seem to choose a higher caliber of workers than Casey’s.

they do start pay around $14 an hr so they offer a real living wage. caseys pays enough to keep their staff methed up for the job. tweakers ruined caseys pizza. no other reason to go to a caseys.

hoping they afford better gas contracts than yesway or caseys. be nice to see the fedex and ups and speedee business move to the new place. that ouaghta just kill yesway. i miss kum and go fu*k yesway.

Hey Pub. Could agree more with your comments about the dead zone. I would add that the dead zone also includes the “news”! TV, radio, print media and this shit show are pathetic.

Perhaps you should run for MC city counsel so you change things….oh wait…. 🙂

Great. I get to drive by and see those scarves from NISS digging around…

Whats a “scarves” that digs?

hes a douchebag who thinks hes somehow better than people because they work construction than he is making a blanket stement and generalizing all the employees of a busniess as “scarves” when i think the rum piece o shit meant “scurves” maybe the op should get a fuc*ing job that way he has some where to be during the day thats not driving around watching adults work for a living to fill his fuc*ing ebt card for him. eat shit op.

U can also drive by the new multi purpose arena and see NISS digging around!

Scurves.

Whats a scurve?

if youve never heard the word people say it aboujt you not to you. dont act like youve never heard the word or someone being called scurve bag. maybe its a mason city thing like calling someone a rum. pretty common to everyone who grew up here.

Don’t worry we work harder cause millions on welfare like u depend on us!

Yeah ok. Maybe just air the weed smoke out of your machinery before you “work hard” next time.

John is that u

whats wrong with you? so scurves smoke weed now and only scurves? tell that to two thirds of adult americans. i think the associationg youre trying to make is that construction workers are skanks and drug addicts and youre right aboout that for the most part. but normal ppeople do work construction and either way without anyone doing it we wouldnt have roads and buildings. you reference weed but i think youre just so prejudice and uninformed that youre equating weed with meth in your pathetic little brain. see throwing weed out in your insult makes you look like a bigger moron than anyone else here, nbody cares. weed is not destructive to health or mental state it doesnt effect judgement nearly the way booze does it is legal in half the united states. nobody cares. your strange prejudice and over wheliming anger about a plant and you assumption that these people are hotboxing construction equipment make it obvious youre a dramatic over the top judgemental uninformed complainy callow jackass. you should shut the fuc* up.

what…. do you guys start out at? honestly curious.

the south end needed this but there is no reason not to drive across town either. these stores are so awesome! you can get half your groceries from here and gas. their selection is huge and the stores are nice. miss kum and go, hope this is the killing blow for the ghetto yesway stores.

Awesome!

took the comment from my fingertips. good riddance yesway!

“The store will bring a much-needed small-scale grocery service to the south side of town, which has been long under-served.” Don’t you know it’s all about the DOWN TOWN! Silly You!!
