GREENE, IOWA – A lumber yard burned down in Greene on Monday.

The Greene Lumber Company at 208 East Traer Street suffered a catastrophic fire Monday morning, July 8. Local fire departments from Marble Rock and elsewhere responded to the scene in the early morning hours to battle a large blaze that had engulfed the business.

The City of Greene reported via Twitter, “This is some sad news for Greene, the Greene Lumber Company building has burned down overnight.”

“We are devastated!” the lumber yard reported via social media. “Thank you to everyone for all of your hard work and support this morning,” as the fire was finally put out.

Back on July 1, an electrical fire damaged the office at the business.

“A huge thank you to the Greene and Marble Rock Fire Department for their quick responses this morning,” the lumber yard report via social media that morning. “The office is in rough shape and we are without power, but we are here!”

Now that a second fire has totally destroyed the business, Greene Lumber is directing customers to Clarksville.

“If you need any supplies, please contact Clarksville Lumber. They will be helping us out.”
