Mason City police officer breaks elbow chasing wanted man

MASON CITY – A Mason City police officer broke his elbow while chasing a wanted man Monday afternoon.

On Monday, June 24, 2019, at approximately 4:30 PM, two Mason City Police Officers were attempting to serve an arrest warrant at 824 N Federal Avenue. As they were leaving, a vehicle pulled in and the officers went out with it.
A passenger from this vehicle, Josh Teeter, age 21 of Mason City, who was known to officers, was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for a probation violation. Teeter attempted to flee the officers on foot and was pursued by them. When the second officer encountered Teeter near a building, Teeter abruptly surrendered. The officer was unable to avoid making physical contact with Teeter and did so, also impacting on the building. The officer sustained a broken bone in his elbow as a result of the impact with the building.

Teeter was taken into custody without further incident. He was charged with the Probation Violation warrant, Interference with Official Acts resulting in bodily injury – a serious misdemeanor, and Interference with Official Acts resulting in serious injury – an aggravated misdemeanor. Teeter remains in custody at the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

The officer was treated and released from the MercyOne North Iowa Emergency Room for his injury. He will be off work for several weeks, but is expected to make a full recovery.
