CLIVE, IOWA – A man tried to commit suicide Monday in the Des Moines area by jumping off a bridge over a busy Interstate highway.
On June 10 at 2:08 PM, Clive and West Des Moines police responded to a report of a male adult sitting on the edge of the University Street overpass over I-35/80 above the north/eastbound lanes. Within minutes, it was reported that the male had jumped from the bridge into I-35/80. Medics immediately responded.
Upon arrival, first responders found bystanders administering CPR to a male adult lying in the easternmost lane of north/eastbound I-35/80.
Preliminary reports indicate that the male was riding in a vehicle on University Avenue, being driven by a relative. The man got out of the car and climbed over the bridge and jumped into traffic, in an apparent suicide attempt. The victim was transported by Clive Medics to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. His condition is not known at this time. His name is not being released.
