MASON CITY – The Mason City School Board will meet Monday night to talk about a project for a new gymnasium and swimming pool, then consider raises for 3 administrators that would put the total compensation for 5 employees in the so-called “administration cabinet” above $800,000.
The Mason City School Board will meet Monday night starting at 5:30 PM at the Education Administrative Center Board Room. The main item on the agenda for action is a consideration for raises for certain employees. A list of district administrators (Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Director of Special Education and Student Services and Human Resources Director) and the 2019-2020 base salary (2% increase approved for this group at 5/20/19 Board meeting) will be presented for Board approval.
Three employees will get a 2% compensation increase:
Two other employees who make up the “administration cabinet” as a school document calls it, are already approved for raises after a May 20, 2019 meeting: David Versteeg ($175,950 increased to $188,900) and Cheri Yoder ($86,487.50 t0 $106,688).
The total compensation for these 5 employees is $848,580.98. This includes salary, IPERS, life insurance policies, phone bills and other perks.
Project for a gymnasium and pool at the High School complex appears to be moving forward. Representatives from Bergland + Cram Architects will attend the meeting and facilitate a discussion with the Board about the planning process for the design work for the proposed auxiliary gym/swimming pool project. After committees complete a planning process over an indeterminate amount of time, the Board of Directors at a future meeting will approve final study findings and preliminary budget to advance project scope toward a funding plan with a possible public vote in September of 2020.
This is ridiculous, it would different if the money was going to the students and teachers but it is not. They wonder why this district has no money and teachers have to purchase supplies out of their own pockets. Teachers aides don’t even get a decent wage in this district and most work two jobs some even three jobs. I know quite that have left the district and got better paying jobs and the administrators wonder why they can’t find good help when they need it. The 2 and a half million dollars should be paid back for the teachers, students and paraprofessionals of this district.
Oh for cripes sake, get over it already. After all, what’s $800k when its for the good of the children anyway.
Time to find out if it is as bad elsewhere.
SERIOUSLY ARE THESE PEOPLE AND SCHOOL DISTRICT FLIPPING OUT OF THEIR MIND?? NO WONDER THE ENROLLMENT IS GOING DOWN. What has already be done is criminal. In ANY other job business if an employee was over paid there would be a definite recoupment to salaries to get the money back. Not only that these new raises are not for teachers or children’s education benefits, nor is a new pool. Blatantly straight out criminal behavior right in front of everyone’s faces. Crazy!!
Get rid of half the administrators and make the rest earn their money.
What the hell is wrong with these people??? It is so damn easy to spend other people’s money. They shouldn’t get another dime until the 2 million is paid back in full.
