Clear Lake woman allegedly unleashes violent, drunken rampage in Mason City

MASON CITY – A Clear Lake woman allegedly unleashed a violent, drunken rampage in Mason City Wednesday before she was caught after a foot chase.

Officers with the Mason City Police Department were dispatched to the Southbridge Mall at 100 South Federal Ave.,Wednesday on a report of a female being disorderly. As Officers were arriving on scene dispatch advised that the female was now operating a red truck and possibly ramming her vehicle in the loading dock on the south-side of the mall. Officers arrived a short time later observing the truck leaving the scene. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop and the driver failed to stop. A short vehicle pursuit started till the driver was blocked in by heavy traffic at the intersection of US HWY 122 and South Pennsylvania Ave. At that time the driver struck a marked Mason City Police Department Vehicle and then abandoned the truck on foot as it continued down the roadway unoccupied. A foot pursuit ensued with the driver being taken into custody a block away. The driver was identified as Elizabeth Bitker, age 48 of Clear Lake, Iowa.

Bitker was charged with; Carrying Weapons an Aggravated Misdemeanor, Operating While Impaired 1st Offense a Serious Misdemeanor, Eluding a Serious Misdemeanor, Interference with Official Acts a Serious Misdemeanor and Assault on a Peace Officer with injury an Aggravated Misdemeanor.
