MASON CITY – A Mason City woman and her daughter were terrorized after they came home this past Christmas Eve, only to find a convicted car thief sleeping on their couch, who this month was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his crime.
The incident took place on the morning of Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24. A Mason City woman, Terri Watts, arrived at her home at 140 6th Street SW (owned by Matt Marquardt) in Mason City along with her 14-year-old daughter. They were shocked to find a grubby, disheveled man sleeping on their couch.
“We were horrified,” Mrs. Watts said. “The guy was sleeping on our couch, his head on our pillow, and he was wearing my daughter’s clothes. He had rummaged through our house and messed everything up.”
The terrified mother and daughter ran upstairs and dialed 911. Mason City police quickly arrived and confronted the apparent criminal on the couch. Allegedly, he was wearing the young teen’s clothes and even had Mrs. Watt’s credit cards in his wallet. A large knife was also found by police. Officers demanded the man put out a cigarette before they rousted him into handcuffs.
Arrested was 30-year-old James Grant Dulude, no known address. He was charged with felony second-degree burglary. Court records show Dulude later entered a guilty plea to an amended charge of third-degree burglary. This month, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison and has since been shipped away to serve his sentence.
Dulude stole a car in Mason City back on November 26, 2018, in Mason City. He pled guilty on December 19 and on December 20, a judge rendered the guilty verdict to a charge of operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent. Judge Adam Sauer sentenced Dulude to 14 days in jail. However, he very apparently was OK to walk the streets of Mason City for unknown reasons.
Dulude has a long criminal history including felony theft convictions in Bremer county from 2011. He was accused of felony criminal mischief in Franklin county in 2016 and was then sent to the infamous Beje Clark facility in Mason City as some kind of punishment. After arriving in Mason City, Dulude took root in town and to continue his criminal ways here. Now, he will serve time in prison, likely less than his 15-year sentence.

Before blaming BG Clark or the police department, without any real proof, maybe you should think about other possible contributing factors. Stop making people worry about BG Clark or making them mad about the wrong things. There are a lot of reasons for crime in Mason City. How about the number of homeless people, meth, corrupt local government or the Mason City High School where they only care about the students that have parents with money. Do you know how many criminals today there are that didn’t get the education they deserved when they were younger? Or that were treated bad at the high school and accepted it because that is always how it has been? At least BG Clark keeps their rules enforced and works with the MCPD. I don’t hear of a lot of bad practices from either one of those places of employment, that are factual, rather than someone running their mouth. What resources are offered to people having a hard time. People that make mistakes when they are young and are never able to make up for being stupid because they were immature or never getting the support and guidance they need so badly. Because they were told as kids if you are poor, you are not as worthy. Mason City is really good at keeping people down and bitching on Northiowatoday. How about noticing programs like drug court and other successful ideas? Supporting the positive and giving your time and effort to help. Instead of complaining so much. Try to think before you put out statements that may not be true. You just think maybe BG a Clark is the problem. There are families that are thankful for BG Clark because their child or spouse was able to stay in the area when they were completing their court ordered punishment.

ya, beje clark has been helping to extend the criminal network and even convinced new criminals to move to town. the facility is a waste of time and money and in the end brings more crime to the area, youre introducing criminals from each county around here to eachother effectively all beje clark does is expand the network and increase drug crime, theft and violence, it never should have been built so close to big blue and maybe never even within city limits. had to cut all those trees down in that area, because the beje freaks where using them for inappropriate things. all beje clark is good for is keeping the doors open at business’s around towm that nobody needs or cares about. places like aeron where nobody whos a good person that deserves oxygen works at for more than a week. beje clark has been importing criminals to mason city almost as well as Detroit or Chicago. things need to change in this town, its probably to late to turn it around at this point but some things still should be tried and closing beje as well as prairie ridge may be a huge benefit to our community.
Close Beje or move it to a new facility next to the sheriff’s office. If there was a shred of leadership in MC they would be working on things like this, not sending city workers to erect lame statues in front of struggling downtown businesses.

Point is there is bad seeds in every race and there is no simple easy way to fix that problem other then keeping a gun at home and a taser or mace or whatever you can to keep safe with.

The internet is great for finding information but it can easily be misleading such as with Alex Jones and all so that jihad watch site which is nothing more then conspiracy and fear mongering which further causes division in this country.
Nothing is ever gonna be an easy fix and not one person should ever get the total blame for failures yes that include bush, Obama and Trump or any other president for that matter.
We need figure out solutions to problems. Keep what works and brainstorm better ideas to what doesn’t work.
