MASON CITY – A man has been sent to jail after a shooting this past December at a Mason City bar.
A spokesman with the Mason City police department tells NIT that 24-year-old Demarcus Jordan Bennett, unknown address, was a suspect after a shooting that took place December 23, 2018 at at Spike’s Bar. An arrest warrant was issued and he was charged with reckless use of a firearm. After a trial, he was later guilty of that crime and landed in jail for 15 days.
According to Mason City police, on December 23, 2018, at 1:55 AM, an altercation with gunshots fired was reported in front of Spike’s bar, 18 7th Street SE in Mason City. Several people were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries. Police didn’t say who was hurt or the extent of injuries.
No injuries were reported due to gunfire.
After the incident, a person at the scene told NIT:
“An ambulance was called to the Taco John’s parking lot for a person who was bleeding, he said he wasn’t shot, but he was banged up pretty bad and bleeding. Witnesses said three black males, one in a gray jump suit and two with dreds took off walking… Another witness said she saw them get into a vehicle maybe a silver Tahoe. Another vehicle pulled up to the emergency vehicle and said they were also a assault victim, and said that the guys were trying to shoot him in the back. Two females were taken to the hospital (I think the cops drove them, instead of by ambulance).”
15 days in jails for using a gun is not punishment!
