Republican Gov. Reynolds signs law extending sales tax for public schools

Kim Reynolds
DES MOINES – Gov. Kim Reynolds signed HF546, the SAVE extension, into law on May 24, 2019 at the Sioux City Career Academy. The law extends the penny sales tax for school infrastructure to January 1, 2051, which is projected to generate a total of $26.2 billion between 2019 and 2051.

“Today, we reaffirm our commitment to providing our children the very best education possible. It’s the foundation of what makes our state a great place to live, work, and raise a family,” said Gov. Reynolds. “This investment in school infrastructure, renovation, security improvements, and career academies is an essential component as we focus on preparing our workforce for the cutting-edge careers of the 21st century.”

HF546: an act relating to school funding by modifying provisions relating to the collection of sales tax for deposit in the secure an advanced vision for education fund, provisions relating to the use of tax revenue from the secure an advanced vision for education fund, and provisions relating to the calculation of the additional property tax levy, and making appropriations.

If the public school system would start learning to live within their budget, they wouldn’t need all the extra financial aid they do. No different than homeowners. Live within the income you have or go into debt. What’s the difference between puppies and teachers? Puppies quit crying when they grow up. (Love that quote!!!)

Couldn’t agree more.

Shouldn’t this country live within its budget? Our spender in chief now has a $22 TRILLION dollar deficit. $22 TRILLION. $22 TRILLION. Let that sink in for awhile. Your great grandkids are going to be paying for it and you don’t care.

Trump spender in chief?? Compared to Obama he’s a regular Scrooge.

I think you are misinformed.
Deficit(in billions) . Deficit/GDP
2015 $438 $327 2.4% Defense = $736.4 b
2016 $585 $1,423 3.1% Defense = $767.6 b
2017 $665 $672 3.4% Defense = $817.9 b
2018 (est)$779 $1,217 4.0% Defense = $890.8 b. Trump tax cuts.
Debt increase
Notice that the debt increase has almost doubled since Trump took office. Most of it is in relation to his defense spending and his tax cuts. Obama had to deal with an economic collapse. Trump is leading us into another one.

Obama dealt with economic collapse?!?!?! Are you sure about that? Seems the economy was already in recovery mode by the time he took office. We endured 8 years of lethargic economic activity under his ‘leadership’.

You don’t remember watching your 401k shrink to nothing 2007-2008? Obama wasn’t prez then. Guess who was.

If all you listened to was Trump, you probably believe that he has produced this ‘booming’ economy. If you prefer factual evidence, read this https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2019/05/09/trumps_economy_is_strong_obamas_was_better_140284.html

Uh oh. You just landed on Bo’s sh*t list. She’s not going to like this. She’s anti-truth.

All those millionaire teachers out there getting rich off the taxpayers dole. Yes, this is sarcasm.

This state has seriously underfunded education for the better part of 35 years. We’ve gone from tops in the nation in 1980 to barely being mediocre today.

I have intentionally stayed out of this fray because I know where it would lead. Thank you for explaining your sarcasm because the others posting on here just don’t get it. And, as far as you go eLViS, I am not anti-truth, I am anti you and your misguided politics.

Don’t forget eLViS jr.

So you’re back to saying to paid for your own retirement. Sure sounds like anti-truth to me.
