Republican Gov. Reynolds signs law extending sales tax for public schools

DES MOINES – Gov. Kim Reynolds signed HF546, the SAVE extension, into law on May 24, 2019 at the Sioux City Career Academy. The law extends the penny sales tax for school infrastructure to January 1, 2051, which is projected to generate a total of $26.2 billion between 2019 and 2051.

“Today, we reaffirm our commitment to providing our children the very best education possible. It’s the foundation of what makes our state a great place to live, work, and raise a family,” said Gov. Reynolds. “This investment in school infrastructure, renovation, security improvements, and career academies is an essential component as we focus on preparing our workforce for the cutting-edge careers of the 21st century.”

HF546: an act relating to school funding by modifying provisions relating to the collection of sales tax for deposit in the secure an advanced vision for education fund, provisions relating to the use of tax revenue from the secure an advanced vision for education fund, and provisions relating to the calculation of the additional property tax levy, and making appropriations.
