MASON CITY – A drive-by shooter intentionally targeted a Mason City house Wednesday night, police say, as they search for clues.
According to the Mason City police department, on May 22, 2019, at 9:25 PM, residents reported multiple gunshots fired in the 700 block of 12th Steet NE. Police responded and found evidence that verified multiple rounds had been fired. Some of the rounds struck a nearby residence. It appears this residence was intentionally targeted by someone who traveled to that location in a vehicle. No one was injured at that residence or in surrounding area. The suspect apparently then left the scene in a vehicle, following the discharge.
This case is currently under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mason City Police Department.
The globe gazette reported that the police stated that the people at the residence know more about it than they are telling the police. Wish the report would state the race(s) of the people involved. I wish they would do this in all crimes reported. Since I am sure that black people were not involved in this incident, it would stop people from arbitrarily blaming them. See how fair minded I am? We should spend more money on Main Street for statues, over paid chamber salaries, replacing brick that will fall apart again because of the north iowa weather. That should fix the crime, right. Let not forget about the rent a bike program. I would suggest hiring more law enforcement officers, to patrol the community. If need one on each street corner until we get this community back to where it should be. Between dirt balls, drug addicted, and just plain crazy people that should be somewhere where they get guidance, Mason city will alway be the butthole of north iowa. To bad the crap is spreading into the highlands. One last thing, holding landlords accountable would help also. The rental housing in this town looks horrible and the lawns are not kept up.

It is true. Russ Hardy has, and probably still is, actively recruited in crime ridden Chicago ghettos. Sure, most of those who comes do so because they want to get away from it, but when you fish in murky water, you are bound to catch some really bad fish as well.
Mason City is a welcoming community but we can’t keep bringing the worst of society.
These types of thugs no matter where they come from need to get the boot out of Iowa.
More neighbor watch programs as this is your neighborhood so take it back and police presence out patrolling known problem areas.
Get some summer youth programs going to teach kids a possible trade or jobs taking care of the community.
Untimely it all comes down to us to do something and fighting guns with guns is not the answer.
