Minnesota drunk driver on wrong side of road causes auto accident outside Mason City

MASON CITY – A Minnesota man allegedly driving drunk caused a dangerous auto accident Sunday night on Highway 122 between Mason City and Clear Lake when he intentionally drove head-on into on-coming traffic.

On May 19th, 2019 at 10:03 AM, Cerro Gordo county deputies responded to a single vehicle rollover with reported injuries. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the driver, 26-year-old Luis Rodriguez of Worthington, Minnesota. Rodriguez had minor cuts on his hands. After investigation, deputies discovered Rodriguez had intentionally drove head-on into an oncoming vehicle. Both Drivers swerved to avoid colliding. Rodriguez lost control of his vehicle and rolled into the north ditch before the vehicle came to rest on its top.

Rodriguez was placed under arrest and is being held at the Cerro Gordo county jail for second-offense operating while under the influence (drug related), reckless driving, and failure to maintain control.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Clear Lake Police Department, Clear Lake Fire and Clear Lake Fire Medics.
