Young teen boy charged with felony after shooting in Fort Dodge Thursday morning

FORT DODGE – A young teen boy has been charged with a felony after a shooting in Fort Dodge Thursday morning.

On Thursday, May16 e approximately liSS A.M., the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a call regarding shots fired. Information relayed to dispatch indicated shots were fired in the area of 10th Ave SW and 100 Street SW in Fort Dodge. The caller indicated they had heard at least two shots.

Officers with the Fort Dodge Police Department’s Patrol and Investigations civil on responded and began canyasing the area. On scene, officers learned that a group of individuals was gathered near the intersection of 10 Ave SW and 14th Street SW. At some point, one of the individuals left the area, retrieved a firearm and fired at least two shots in the direction of other individuals.

Police do not believe there were any injuries, however, investigators are still attempting to locate some of the individuals who were present during this incident. While in the area, a resident notified them that a bullet had passed through their home, which officers were able to retrieve.

In addition, officers located a firearm at another residence.

As a result of information obtained thus far, a 13-year-old male was arrested on the following charges:

• Going Armed with Intent – D Felony
• Carrying Weapons — Aggravated Misdemeanor
• Reckless Use of Firearm — Aggravated Misdemeanor

The juvenile male was transported to Central Iowa Detention in Eldora. Due to the age of the offender, his name will not be released. All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Fort Dodge Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident. The quick resolution in this case was a result of immediate information being relayed to officers from witnesses in the area while on scene. This collaboration led to the offender being identified and a firearm being retrieved.
