Clear Lake’s Dairy Queen building demolished for likely Kwik Star

CLEAR LAKE – Clear Lake’s Dairy Queen building is being demolished today to make room for a likely Kwik Star convenience store.

Clear Lake’s Dairy Queen closed back in September of 2017 and the structure has sat vacant ever since.  Today, a crew was at the site, located at 1006 N. 20th Street, and the building is being torn down.  NIT has learned this afternoon that this is where Kwik Star is building a second Clear Lake store.

According to City Administrator Scott Flory, “We haven’t approved the site plan for the new store yet, but it is anticipated for June’s Planning & Zoning Commission meeting. The property was purchased from Dean Snyder Construction by Kwik Star.”

So, the timeline for new construction is sometime in the future, and not quite yet known.

Ever since Clear Lake’s Dairy Queen closed, a great alternative for ice cream treats in the area has been the Viking Inn in Ventura, located at 3 South Main Street.  Long lines yet fast service lead to large servings and satisfied customers, most patrons will tell you.

Man. I flipped burgers at DQ the day that thing opened! I was 18!

Why you all bitchin? Good jobs are coming with QuikStar. Afraid they won’t hire you? $14 an hour but you have to work.

Mad because you got mouths to feed working a shitty job you hate or you just a prick whose mommy didn’t hug you enough.

You hear that sound? It’s yesway and Casey’s anticipating getting kicked in the pussy. I can’t wait for kwik star. They sell almost everything you need and have good food.oh they also pay their employee’s. Bet they don’t let light posts fall on customers cars and then . . . Just never replace the light.

why have they not started building in mason city yet I do not think they will ever build one here they will just own the land and not put anything on it

It is the Clear Lake property that will sit for awhile. Mason City is scheduled to open this fall. They have a schedule and stick to it.

This is progress, I guess. We dined at the Dairy Queen a couple times, and there were issues with the food both times. It doesn’t take much, and your car just won’t turn into certain fast-food places anymore.

remember back into the 50’s when there was a gas station on every corner?? getting back to that with a quik star on every corner

Yes, and gas was .20 cents a gallon.

Charles City gas war about 1970 reg was 17 premium was 18 a gal maybe 1971?
