WASHINGTON, D.C. — In the wake of a deadly synagogue shooting in Poway, Calif., Democratic U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein on Monday announced her intention to reintroduce a bill to raise the minimum age to purchase assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines from 18 to 21.
“If you’re too young to purchase a handgun, you shouldn’t be able to buy an assault rifle,” Senator Feinstein said. “It’s common sense to prevent the sale of deadly assault weapons to individuals who aren’t even allowed to buy a beer. This isn’t a fix-all bill, but it closes a gaping loophole in federal gun safety laws, and I hope the Senate will act on it swiftly.”
Under current federal law, an individual is required to be at least 21 years old in order to legally purchase a handgun but only 18 years of age to legally purchase an assault rifle like the AR-15 used in the Poway shooting.
The legislation, which Senator Feinstein introduced with Senator Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) last year, creates parity in federal firearms law by prohibiting the sale of assault weapons to individuals under 21.
These posts are unbelievable. They are idiots. Sen. Feinstein made a mistake when she used the term assault rifle. So what? The purpose of the bill is what is pertinent. She wants to raise the age to purchase to 21. I see no reason not to raise the age to purchase any firearm to 21. When I go to gun shows, the usual people I see looking at assault type weapons are fat, bearded, Rambo wannabes. If they want to play soldier, go join the military.
If that’s the case why do they want to allow 16 year olds the right to vote and then take away the right to own firearms by law abiding citizens?
She did not make a mistake when she used the term “assault rifle”. She wouldn’t know the difference between a M16A4 and a Colt M4 AEG CGB. Her and her goons, are out to ban all guns, one step at a time.

Just because it looks like an “assault rifle”, doesn’t make it one. Only the military has assault rifles. Very few people have a license that allows them to legally own/sell a military style assault rifle. Feinstein is just blowing smoke, her bill is a waste of time, as it is not going to change anything. Criminals will get guns whether they are 16 or 66.

Please notice it says AUTOMATIC rifle. not SEMI-automatic. An AR-15 is a semi automatic.

By gum you are right, there is no way you could assault anyone with an AR-15 that has a high capacity magazine.
I mean all these reports are wrong. Because the shooter had to stand there and keep pulling the trigger I guess that makes the AR 15 not an assault rifle. Silly Me, I will have to pick one up for my next Pheasant or deer hunt because I guess that is what the AR 15 is designed for uh??
So, lets think about this like you.
374 people were killed using rifles such as the AR-15 in 2016, 656 were killed using what the FBI calls “personal weapons” like fists, hands and feet. This includes physical altercations and incidents of pushing. Another 472 people were killed that year using a blunt object. The FBI lists hammers and clubs as examples.
SO we shouldn’t have ANY of these things?
That’s not what I’m saying, you’re trying to tell me that an A.R. 15 is not an assault rifle just because it’s not an automatic. It is designed to kill people that’s it! Everything else you described as another purpose besides harming a human being.

Except in California where you can’t buy one at all. But, yet they still get them because they don’t care about th law. Putting in a new law that affects honest, law abiding people will do nothing to stop the slaughter. If the can’t get guns they will firebomb or make bombs out of propane tanks. Stupid Feinstein.
Yeah, every American citizen over 10 needs an AR-15. Hell, if we all had them, all the criminals would move to Mexico. And because we is Americans we would know who to kill and who not to kill. Crime solved!
