Iowa man who struck cars with bat while standing in road caught after 911 calls

OELWEIN – An Iowa man who struck cars with a bat while standing in the middle of a road was caught after numerous 911 calls Tuesday evening.

On April 23, 2019, at approximately 7:15 PM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls of a male subject in the middle of the roadway waiving a bat and a firearm, hitting vehicles with bat, near the 3000 Block of T Avenue, Oelwein IA. Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene and arrested Augustin Mormann, 29 of Oelwein IA. Mormann was taken into custody and charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, a Class D Felony, Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony, Driving While Barred an Aggravated Misdemeanor, Carrying Weapons, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, Interference with Official Acts, Fraudulent Use of Registration, and No Insurance, all Simple Misdemeanors. Mormann was transported to Fayette County Jail, where he is being held on $20,000 cash bond.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Oelwein Police Department.
