Domestic complaint leads to arrest of Northern Iowa couple on drug and gun charges

GRUVER, IOWA – A domestic complaint led to the arrest of a Northern Iowa couple on drug and gun charges after drug dealer materials were discovered during the police response.

The investigation of a domestic dispute late Friday afternoon, April 19, resulted in the arrest of two Gruver, Iowa residents on multiple charges. According to Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens, the sheriff’s office received a report of an apparent domestic dispute in progress at 104 2nd Street in Gruver. Upon arrival at the scene by sheriff’s office personnel, the domestic dispute was found to still be in progress and upon making contact with the occupants, controlled substances, and paraphernalia were observed  as well as one handgun was located.  As a result 65-year-old James Kent and 38-year-old Conshanda Cox who both live at that address, were placed under arrest and transported to the Emmet County Jail for booking. A search warrant was subsequently executed at this same location and additional controlled substances, paraphernalia, scales, baggies and one additional handgun were seized.

As a result of the investigation, James Kent was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a class (B) felony,  Failure to affix a drug tax stamp,  a class ( D ) felony, Possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, a class (D) felony, Possession of marijuana, a serious misdemeanor and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

Conshanda Cox was charged with: Possession of Methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a class (B) felony, Failure to affix a drug tax stamp, a class (D) felony, Possession of marijuana, a serious misdemeanor and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

The pair had an initial appearance before the magistrate the following morning and bond on Kent was set at $100,000 cash or surety and $25,000 cash or surety on Cox. Both remain in custody at this time.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Estherville Police Department.
