Ames man accused of stabbing puppy and throwing him in dumpster

AMES – An Ames man has been arrested and accused of stabbing a puppy and throwing it in a dumpster.

On April 14, 2019, at 11:43 AM, the Ames Police Department responded to a report of an injured puppy found in a dumpster in the 600 block of Squaw Creek Drive. Officers located a German Shepard puppy in the dumpster. The puppy appeared to have a stab wound in his side. Officers called Animal Control to assist with the investigation. The puppy was transported to a vet clinic, where he received veterinarian care and medical treatment until April 18th. The puppy is currently at the Ames Animal Shelter.
Officers located the owner of the puppy. The owner admitted to stabbing the puppy and placing him in the dumpster.

The owner has been identified as Rashidi D. Simba, age 20, of Ames. Simba was arrested for Animal Torture, an aggravated misdemeanor, on April 19, 2019. He remains in the Story county jail, awaiting a court appearance.
