MASON CITY – A Mason City man surrendered to police after an armed standoff Thursday evening.

On April 11, 2019 at about 6:03 PM Mason City Police were dispatched to 5 North Federal on a report of a disturbance. Officers arrived and were met by a female victim who was taken to the Police Department for follow up. A male, later identified as Mark Edward Torres, age 44, of Mason City remained in the apartment and refused to exit the apartment. Torres told police he was armed with a firearm and threatened to use the firearm. Officers stood by the apartment and parts of the multi-level apartment building were evacuated. Officers communicated with Torres for approximately 3 hours attempting to negotiate a peaceful surrender. At approximately 9:03 PM, Torres finally exited the apartment and was taken into custody. Torres was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
