MASON CITY – An SUV slammed through the front of the Kwik Coin Laundry in Mason City Wednesday morning, and the driver was cited.
Today, at 10:02 am, a collision was reported at the Kwik Coin Laundry located at 18 N Monroe Ave, Mason City, IA. A 2004 Cadillac Escalade was apparently driven backwards (in reverse) through the front door(s) of the business. The Cadillac driver and owner, James Arthur Lee, 58, of Mason City, was not injured, nor was anyone inside the business.
Lee was backing his SUV up to the main doors. The vehicle continued over the large concrete pad (barrier) and into the business. Improper backing, speed, and possibly worn brakes may have been contributing factors to the crash. Lee’s vehicle was towed from the scene. Lee was cited for Failure to Prove Insurance.
Damage to the building was extensive. Due to possible structural safety and food safety concerns, city and county building and health code inspectors have temporarily closed the Gyro Hut and Kwik Coin Laundry. Once repairs have been made and the 2 locations pass inspection, they may be permitted to reopen for business.
