DES MOINES – Gov. Reynolds released the following statement after the Iowa House Judiciary Committee unanimously passed, House Study Bill 68, a joint resolution proposing an amendment to the Iowa Constitution to restore the voting rights of felons:
“(Tuesday’s) unanimous vote by the House Judiciary Committee sends a strong message in favor of second chances and forgiveness for felons. It highlights the broad commitment of supporters for a constitutional amendment and another step forward to give Iowans a vote on this issue.”
The House Judiciary Committee vote means that the Governor’s proposed constitutional amendment advanced through the first funnel and is now eligible for consideration on the House Floor.
Felons get rights back but politicians continue to deny law abiding gun owners rights. Many surrounding states have constitutional carry. This means if you can legally own firearms you are allowed to carry them on you. The “keep and bear arms” part of 2nd Amendment. Remember that criminals already carry firearms. The same felons who have voting rights restored now. Women especially need Constitutional Carry. They can not wait for current permit process after an assault or restraining order.
Does this include the ILLEGALS also – maybe – could be.
