Information released by City Hall in Mason City on Tuesday, March 5, 2019:
The Music Man Complex & Hotel
A 105-room, full-service hotel and conference center will be built in the parking lot south of Southbridge Center.
A new Skywalk will connect the hotel and conference center to The Music Man Square and Meredith Willson Museum.
With two ballrooms and more than 25,000 square feet of rentable space, this complex will accommodate large group meeting and convention events with up to 1,000 attendees.
Multi-Purpose Arena
A new Multi-Purpose venue for ice sports, athletic competitions, concerts, and trade shows with a total capacity of up to 3,400. (2,044 fixed seats)
The arena is currently under construction at Southbridge Center – in the space formerly occupied by the JC Penney store which closed in April 2015.
Performing Arts Pavillion
A new Plaza entrance to Southbridge Center that includes an indoor/outdoor Performing Arts Pavillion – which will serve as the new home for the Mason City Municipal Band and free city concerts for all ages and seasons.

Many MC families are moving out this spring. Watch how many homes hit the market. I have heard of 6 prominent businesses that are going to relocate also. When idiots run the city, people move away. This “Project” that only benefits MCYH was the final straw for many. When it fails, MC will pay.
When we go broke and slummy will the chamber of commerce bus me to a smaller town ? SAY CARTERSVILLE then 10 resident there can put up some section 8 free housing for me and my little bambinos ?
Have you looked around this town lately???? We’re already pretty slummy looking with plenty of poverty issues. Time to invest in this town rather than do nothing and watch it go down the tubes even further.

I think a lot of this is putting the cart before the horse. Without additional population the city as it stands cannot sustain it. And before the population increases their hands to be jobs, sustainable jobs that can support a household.
Without all that, it is just adding an additional burden to the existing taxpayers of Mason City.
As I have written in the past, the estimated cost to operate the arena cannot be covered by Amateur Hockey.
And before someone replies saying that my comments are naysaying and negative, they are not. My comments are being realistic to the situation as it is.
We’ve turned away countless employment prospects at the door. Prestage just being one of many. You have to just realize their are many in this community that resist change of any kind and unfortunately they get their way time and time again by way of their circus like antics at city council meetings
also with prestage the city let other people from other community and states control this city decisions. people from other place who do not pay any city taxes get to tell this city how they should be run.

Hoping this will all work out. Could be a boost for Mason City. I just wish the city would have been more open about the new apartment complex. Let the citizen know they are looking to develop he area and what they have planned. Makes me wonder what is planned for the rest of the willow creek area west of southbridge. Guess we will have to wait until the next big announcement.

So the hotel now will be only for the people using the conference center, a 105 room hotel, on aveage each room holds 2 people for 210 people max where will the other 790 people going to stay. somewhere they need to travel across town from their hotel on the west side, and what about the people not going to a conference I guess they will not be staying downtown, they could stay at the park inn hotel. seem like little by little parts of this project are going away first the stand alone conference center is gone so is the stand alone museum next will be the performing art pavilion. then it will be the hotel/conference complex, and finally the skywalk. and the city will get what they have only want all this time the hockey arena. with no concerts or anything people who do not want hockey would enjoy, after hockey season they will shut down till next hockey season. and all this will be brought to you on the backs of the taxpayers.
