MANCHESTER, IOWA – An Iowa State Patrolman with “nerves of steel” chased down a dangerous, speeding driver Thursday on an ice-covered Northern Iowa highway.

Jon Stickney is an Iowa State Patrolman who works District 10 in Northeast Iowa. He was patrolling Highway 20 near Manchester, Iowa Thursday when he encountered a driver in a station wagon he says was traveling 96 mph in a 65 speed zone on 100 percent snow and ice. Trooper Stickney immediately went after the offender in his 2018 Dodge Charger (all wheel drive) and the pursuit lasted less than a mile.

“I must have had nerves of steel to go after him, luckily the driver exited,” Trooper Stickney said after the traffic stop. “That’s all I was thinking about was how to tactically slow us both down…. it all worked out thankfully.”

The driver was cited and the ticket will cost $240.00.

Much of Iowa was hit hard Wednesday and Thursday with snow, freezing rain and then bitterly cold temps and high winds; vehicles were spotted in ditches across the state.
