Police say “precious heirlooms” stolen from family of Richie Valens in Clear Lake

CLEAR LAKE – Police say “precious heirlooms” were stolen in recent days from the family of Richie Valens in Clear Lake.

On February 3, 2019, the Clear Lake Police Department responded to theft report of two picture collages and one movie poster belonging to the Ritchie Valens’ Family. The family was in town for the Winter Dance Party celebration held over the past weekend at the Surf Ballroom. The items were taken from the Best Western Motor Lodge in Clear Lake on Saturday, February 2nd from a conference room during a family luncheon.

Investigators have been working with the Valens’ Family, the Best Western and the Surf. The items’ return is the primary concern for the family. The items have been described as “precious heirlooms.” The actual value is still being determined.

The family and the police department are seeking the public’s help in this matter. If anyone has information on the whereabouts of the items (pictures attached to the email) please contact the Clear Lake Police Department at 641-357-2186 or at police@cityofclearlake.org.
