OKOBOJI, IOWA – DNR conservation officers will be partnering with the Iowa State Patrol and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office on a special enforcement project over the Winter Games at Okoboji this weekend.
During the 2019 University of Okoboji Winter Games, officers will provide additional traffic enforcement presence in and around the events.
With hundreds of winter enthusiasts converging on Lake Okoboji for the games, January 24 – 27, officers will be focusing enforcement efforts on four areas that contribute to a majority of crashes:
- Seatbelts – 80% of occupants ejected from their vehicles in a crash are killed. Seatbelts continue to be the best safety feature in the event of a crash.
- Impaired Driving – .08 BAC is the limit for operating your vehicle, including ATV’s and snowmobiles. If your Winter Game festivities include alcohol, plan on finding a designated driver or an alternative ride home.
- Distractions – Roadway departure is a rising factor in many preventable crashes. Put your device down while driving and focus on the road.
- Speed – Excessive speed remains the #1 contributing factor in Iowa crashes. Officers will actively enforce speed limits throughout the Great Lakes region.
Law enforcement officials reminds those partaking in the Winter Games to obey all laws and celebrate responsibly.

University of Okoboji winter games must be as crazy as Iowa state veishea fall games , to have all those crashes in one town ! It should be canceled if they’re that reckless…
Yeah we don’t get out much here so when this event comes to town everyone goes ape shit and gets drunk and speeds though town without their seat belt on while sexting. It’s a hoot.
I really doubt if they will attend – with the tremendous amount of work their doing – CLEANING THE PIG POOP OUT OF Iowa’s 750 POLLUTUTED WATERWAYS – plus about 10% of all agriculture land. WORK WORK WORK as MEL BROOKS said.
Thank god the DNR will be there. The highway patrol is such a bunch of keystone cops, they will need all the help they can get.
