Gov. Reynolds loses bet on Alamo Bowl after Iowa State soundly beaten by Washington State

Governor Kim Reynolds will paying for her gambling ways and the lack of ability of the Iowa State Cyclones to defeat Washington State Cougars.

DES MOINES – The Iowa State University Cyclone football team was soundly beaten by the Washington State University Cougars, 28-26, in the Alamo Bowl on Friday, and now Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has lost a bet with Washington Gov. Jay Inslee.

“Both Iowa and Washington state are used to being No. 1 in agriculture – apples for Washington and corn, eggs and hogs for Iowa,” Gov. Reynolds said before the contest, which Iowa State handily lost. “But only one state can be No. 1 in this bowl game, and I know our Cyclones, with an estimated 25,000 fans traveling to Texas to cheer them on, will bring home the win in the Alamo Bowl. Go State!”

“Iowa and Washington state share a lot in common including a land grant mission, a dedication to serving local communities and a love of football. After Friday, one key thing that will set these great states apart is a Cougar victory in the Alamo Bowl,” Gov. Inslee said playfully before the game, which his Cougars easily won. “A triumph over the Iowa State Cyclones would make this the most victorious season in WSU football history with 11 overall wins. Go Cougs!”

Iowa State trailed the entire game.

Gov. Reynolds pledged to send Iowa delicacies once the Cougars prevailed; Iowa’s Vande Rose Farms and Lynch Family Foundation will donate bacon and other pork products to Olympia’s Thurston County Food Bank. Had his Cougars lost, which they were in little danger of, Gov. Inslee anyway wagered a feast of Ivar’s famous clam chowder to Iowa’s Northeast Iowa Food Bank in the event of an Iowa State victory.

Now Governor Reynolds must pony up the goods.
