Couple flee police, strike cars and houses before one arrested and one hospitalized

MASON CITY – A couple in a pickup truck refused to stop for police today in Mason City, leading to a pursuit, several collisions, an arrest and an injury.

On December 31, 2018 at approximately 12:43 PM, the Mason City Police Department attempted to stop a 2000 Chevrolet pickup in the area of 5th Street SE and South Vermont. The truck refused to stop and instead accelerated away from the Officers until it got to 7th Street SE and South Vermont where it struck a parked car. The truck continued southbound and struck a car that was parked in the driveway on 7th SE. The truck then continued on eastbound where it struck two separate houses in the 900 block of 7th SE. The driver of the truck was found to be 21-year-old Sidney K. Garcia of Mason City and the passenger in the truck was identified as 29-year-old Terry L. Arp, also of Mason City.

Garcia was charged with Failure to Maintain Control, No Driver’s License, No Insurance and Eluding a Police Officer. Garcia was not injured. Arp was injured in the accident and transported to Mercy Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Iowa State Patrol investigated the accident.

Arp ran from Mason City police during a traffic stop back in 2016 but was quickly caught and arrested in that incident.
