OBIT: Mary Louise Beard

Mary Louise Beard, 90, of Floyd, IA died Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at her home. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Mary was born on March 8, 1928 in Nora Springs, IA to Roy and Jennie (Gustafson) Young. She attended school and graduated from Nora Springs High School. On June 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to Robert Beard at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA; where they were active members. Mary’s first job was a night telephone operator in Nora Springs when she was in school and later worked at Damon’s department store in Mason City before becoming a homemaker. After Robert’s passing she helped take care of elderly ladies in their homes that needed assistance.

Throughout her life, Mary resided in Nashua, Rockford and later moved to Nora Springs where they farmed and moved to Floyd after they retired. Mary loved reading her Bible, gardening flowers and collecting stamps. She enjoyed walks in the woods; especially by the stream; listening to christen music and watching Wheel of Fortune.

She is survived by three children: Janice Losee, Sharon (Alan) LaCoste, and Doug (Karen) Beard; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- grandchild.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents; 3 brothers; brothers and sisters-in-law and 1 grandson.
