OBIT: Mario Ochoa

Mario Ochoa, 68, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Per Mario’s wishes, his body has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019, at the Clear Lake VFW Post 4868, 219 Main Ave., Clear Lake.

Mario was born October 1, 1950, the son of Hilario and Salomae (Calderone) Ochoa in Fertile, IA. He married Jean Ryan on February 13, 1971, at Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City.

Mario grew up and attended school in Garner. He retired from Armour & Co. in 2009.

Mario always enjoyed joking around and keeping the mood light no matter where he was. He liked working in the yard and in his garage with his dog, Dugan. He also enjoyed helping his friends and meeting them at McDonald’s for coffee.

Mario is survived by his wife, Jean Ochoa of Clear Lake; four children, Mario (Sandy Skattebo) Ochoa, Jr. of Mason City, Andrea (Jerry) Wright of Mason City, Erica (Jay Teepe) Anderson of Mason City, and Jessica (Ken) Read of Charles City; 14 grandchildren, Jayden, FaLicia, Justyne, Shenice, Ayden, Alexis, C.J., Taylor, Joshua, Andrew, Claire, Lincoln, Evee, and Emma; a great-granddaughter, Vera; and five brothers, Hilario (Margaret) Ochoa, Jr., Everardo (Anna) Ochoa, Carlos (Sally) Ochoa, Richard (Echo) Ochoa and Jose Louis (Donna) Ochoa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Nieves and Leo Ochoa.
