IOWA CITY – An Iowa man who was convicted of murdering his infant daughter has died of suicide in prison.
Ryan Nicholas Trowbridge, formerly of Ankeny, was pronounced dead due to apparent suicide at 2:17 PM on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic where he had been taken. Trowbridge was 28 years old at the time of his death.
Trowbridge had been serving a life sentence for the crime of Murder 1st Degree from Polk County. His incarceration began on December 14, 2012, after he was found guilty of of killing his infant daughter. A judge had said Trowbridge “assaulted (4-month-old) Rylee Trowbridge by grabbing Rylee and shaking her body and or slamming her in a such a manner that a serious and critical head injury was inflicted upon her under circumstance manifesting in extreme indifference to human life.”
The department conducts an investigation into any inmate suicides, and an autopsy will be conducted.
Trowbridge was disciplined back in 2017 for possession or use of confirmed or apparent synthetic cannabinoids in the Iowa State Penitentiary.
