Haliburton Named Big 12 Newcomer Of The Week

IRVING, Texas – Iowa State freshman guard Tyrese Haliburton was named the Big 12’s Newcomer of the Week, announced today by the league’s office.

It marks the first Big 12 weekly honor of Haliburton’s career.

The native of Oshkosh, Wis., averaged 11.3 points, 8.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals as ISU went 2-1 last week. He scored 15 points against Southern and dished out a school-record 17 assists, breaking a 44-year-old ISU record.

The freshman guard had just one turnover against Southern and finished the week with 26 assists and three turnovers. Haliburton shot 60 percent from the field and knocked down 6-of-12 3-point attempts on the week. He has a 5.1 assist-to-turnover ratio this season, which leads the Big 12.

Haliburton and the Cyclones will be back in action on Saturday, taking on Drake in Des Moines at 3:30 p.m. The game will be at Wells Fargo Arena, and is part of the Hy-Vee Classic. It will be televised on MC22.
