OBIT: George G. Theis

George G. Theis, 83, of Manly, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 410 North Broadway, Manly, with Rev. Jacob Rouse officiating. Burial will be at Bohemian Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Manly American Legion Post #110.

Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2018, at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 Spring Street, Manly. A rosary will be said at 4:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake Service will immediately follow.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to Volunteer Fire Department in Plymouth, Iowa or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manly, Iowa.

George was born September 27, 1935, the son of Gilbert and Gladys (Womack) Theis in Osage. He graduated from New Haven School at St. Mary’s, class of 1954. George was united in marriage to Theresa on November 3, 1954 in Osage, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. George made many contributions to his community – he farmed early in their marriage and he worked for Graverson’s Hardware. George proudly served as Mayor of Plymouth January 1998 to December 2009. George enjoyed driving the school bus for North Central of Manly. George was a member of the Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department for 41 years.

He was drafted into the Army in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1964.

George was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Manly American Legion Post #110. He loved his time fishing, taking many trips to Canada and enjoyed the time spent with family and friends.

George is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Theresa Theis of Manly; three children, Thomas (Mindy) Theis of Houston, TX., Kenneth (Ginger) Theis of Valdosta, GA. and Charlotte (Joe) Pannhoff of Clear Lake; two grandchildren, Jordan (Nathan) Renfro and Abigail Pannhoff, expecting one great grandson, Jonathan; three sisters, Veronica Goodale, Mary Jensen and Margaret Weber; five sister in-laws, Joan Hemann, Darlene Hemann, Angie Werner, Sister Mary Kenneth and Beatrice Hemann; Brother in-law, Kenneth(Annie) Hemann, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Norbert (Nancy) Theis; nine brother in-laws, William Goodale, Melvin Jensen, Larry Weber, Raymond, Johnny, Cletus, Bob, Artie Hemann, Herb Werner; sister in-law, Kate Hemann, Norraine Hemann; father and mother in-law, Joe and Dorthy Hemann.
