MASON CITY – Blue Pit in Mason City will be stocked with trout Wednesday, and the public is invited to participate.
The Iowa DNR invites the public to the Blue Pit in Mason City to watch DNR fisheries staff stock the fish and try to catch your own trout. The community lakes trout program offers a “close to home” option for anglers across the state to experience trout fishing. These cool weather stockings provide easy-access trout fishing opportunities in areas that cannot support trout during the summer months. They are a great place to take kids to catch their first fish.
You need a valid fishing license (age 16 and older) and pay the trout fee to fish for or possess trout.
The event begins at 11 AM.

first, I don’t fish trout. was out there one day when I saw the dnr truck backing up to the pit so I stopped. there was a hole cut in the ice and a dozen people with poles standing around it,. the dnr guy had a hard time putting the fish in the hole because of all the people. he would dump a net full and wham all the poles were in the water pulling out the hungry trout that probable hadn’t been fed in a few days. unbelievable. now that’s real sportsman ship and takes a lot of knowledge to catch fish.
It almost happens that way.
we have real big game people in Mason City. They catch fish as they are dumped out of the truck, and now we hunt in the city parks, golf courses, every clump of trees for tame deer. Very sad, wait tell a deer with a arrow in it runs into the side of a car. City will be held responsible
If, you’re a good bowhunter, the deer won’t get that far.
Wait till a deer with an arrow in its head says it will build a hotel in MC. It will be brought to council meetings and checks wrote out to it.
They forgot to mention the limit. I’ve seen people catch their limit, go home, and come right back, and catch another limit. By the time people are off work and their kids are out of school, the easy fish have all been caught.
