Clear Lake woman rescued after falling through ice trying to save dog

Thin ice sign at Clear Lake

CLEAR LAKE – A Clear Lake woman was rescued by emergency responders after falling through ice trying to save her dog Saturday afternoon.

The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched to 1622 N 24th Street at approximately 3:36 PM on Saturday November 17th 2018 for a female subject that had fallen thru the Ice and was submerged in the waters of the Fieldstone Pond.  The Subject 28-year-old Kelsey Boehnke of Clear Lake had gone out onto the ice to try and rescue her dog that had wondered out on to it, when she fell thru becoming submerged in the water.  “If you are going to go out on the Ice, we urge you to take extreme caution especially this early in the season. Ice in many place’s is still to thin to even walk on” said Clear Lake Public Information Officer Josh Pokorney.

The Clear Lake Fire Department responded with 1 Rescue Truck, 1 Command Vehicle, 1 Ice Rescue Boat and 1 Ambulance with 7 firefighters and 2 medics.  Upon arrival the CLFD was notified that the patient had been pulled out of the water by the Clear Lake Police Department who were first on scene. The CLFD was able to get her on a back board and into the ambulance very quickly.  They then transferred her emergent to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa with signs of Hypothermia. The CLFD was assisted on Scene by the Clear Lake Police Department.

WHY dehumanize a Human Being by referring to her as a “female subject”? And later on, AGAIN “the Subject”?
And “submerged in the waterS” ?
And Readers, raise your hands if you give a rat’s ass if you care about what type of vehicles assisted at the scene? Or how many people assisted.? Or HOW she was transported?
Says the “Clear Lake Police Department … was first on the scene.” Then at the end, the Clear Lake Police Department was credited for assisting at the scene. Redundant?

The WOMAN emerged virtually unscathed. BUT WTF HAPPENED TO THE DOG?!?!? Oh, you know! The dog that caused her to go out on the ice in the first place? AND WHY THIS DOG NOT ON A LEASH? Like human CHILDREN, our pets rely on US to care for them…which includes KEEPING THEM SAFE!!!

glad she got out, hope she is okay.

Never seemed very smart.

And the dog just walked back in while the landwhale fell through. neato

Too bad it wasnt you who fell in and headfirst. That would be a no loss situtation.

I hope she was given a ticket for having her dog off a leash. Make sure she pays for the emergency help since this is something that could have been avoided if she was watching her animal appropriately.

OMG! I’m actually AGREEING 100% with one of the Anonomi on here !!! First time for everything ! lol
