BUCHANAN COUNTY, IOWA – Iowa farm boy Chris Soules, who starred in “The Bachelor” and “Dancing with the Stars”, has struck a plea deal for his involvement in a fatal auto crash that took a farmer’s life and led to felony charges.
Reports show that Soules agreed to a guilty plea today in Buchanan County to leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. This is a step down from the charge of Leaving the Scene of a Fatality Motor Vehicle Accident (class D felony) which he faced before. His new crime is an aggravated misdemeanor.
Sentencing is now scheduled for January of 2019.
Leading up to this plea deal, on Monday, April 24, 2017 at approximately 8:20 PM, the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 report of a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the 1000 blk of Slater Avenue (W45) north of Aurora. According to the investigation, a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Christopher Douglas Soules, age 35 of Arlington, Iowa, was southbound on Slater Avenue when he struck the rear of a southbound John Deere 2640 tractor operated by Kenneth Eugene Mosher, age 66 of Aurora, Iowa. The collision caused the tractor to go into the east ditch. Soules’ vehicle went into the west ditch. Mosher was transported to Mercy Hospital in Oelwein where he was pronounced dead. Soules was uninjured in the accident and left the scene of the accident prior to the arrival of law enforcement. Soules was located shortly after at his residence located in the 7500 block of B Avenue near Arlington in Fayette County; he had refused to leave the home for some time before he was subsequently arrested and transported to the Buchanan County Jail.
He definitely got special treatment because his so called fame for being on dancing with the stars and the bachelor.
That shouldn’t give him special treatment.
No one who leaves a man to die alone in the highway is lacking a sole.
Oh well he has to live with what he did the rest of his life.
He killed someone, he should spend time in prison like all the other drunk drivers. There are a lot of young people in jail for killing people with their vehicles. I don’t believe he was sober or he wouldn’t have left that farmer to die alone.

not fire trucks or ambulance or other people that say “I couldn’t smell any alcohol on him”
plus the paper or other news media will not have ALL the information that the jury hears
Additional Information 2. Radar Online obtained Iowa court records that revealed 14 total guilty pleas in Soules’ past, many of them related to speeding and alcohol. These records are available through the Iowa Courts website.
WOW!!! The bachelor has a drinking problem.
Actually Chris Soules did CPR on the farmer but stopped when blood came from his mouth during CPR. He also showed authorities where the farmer was at in the ditch. Also, Mr. Soules left the scene in “another vehicle”, not his own so somebody had to drive him home. Also he was found to have a concussion in the hospital when he was taken there by authorities. He also was found to NOT be driving while under the influence either and nobody who had contact with him at the scene smelled alcohol on him. In addition it was found the farmer did not have flashing lights as required by law when driving a slow moving tracker on a traveled roadway.
All in all from what I have been able to learn, this was an unfortunate accident. I don’t understand why he was charged with anything. It is more than likely that Mr. Soules was in a state of shock himself due to the accident, with a concussion, and knowing he may have killed the farmer in the accident. People that have head injuries are not totally with it either.
Had I been a juror and knowing all this I would have found him not guilty of leaving the scene.

Regardless, he killed someone involuntary and should be guilty as charged. So sad how are judicial system works.

This person has their head in the sand, if you wasn’t guilty then why did he leave the scene of the crime?
The decision IS based on facts! There is a innocent person dead and a presumed person guilty of leaving the scene of a accident intoxicated, but cannot probe he was drunk because he ran from the scene and hid in his house and refused to come out for hours. Why? Guilty as charged.
Hopefully your not that stupid in real life, hey look the guy was extremely drunk and ran into a innocent farmer and killed him. He ran from the accident.
How do you know that he actually did CPR, were you there?
Great headline. Wrong, but great. He didn’t run the farmer down. He ran into the back of a tractor the farmer was driving. He was never charged for that but he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident. Condolences to the family of the farmer.
