Steve King re-elected to Congress over J.D. Scholten

Steve King, speaking in Mason City back in 2014
SIOUX CITY – Steve King was re-elected to Congress Tuesday night over an upstart Democrat and a negative national spotlight.

Steve King beat J.D. Scholten 157,221 to 146,698 to begin his 9th term in Congress next year. He represents Iowa’s 4th Congressional District.

Many left-leaning media outlets, celebrities and even some citizens attempted to paint King as a racist and other negative connotations. But King was able to weather the storm. He declined to debate Scholten and did little campaigning beyond making national headlines by supporting President Donald Trump’s philosophies and policies. The mostly-rural 4th District voters did what the almost always do – vote red – and King capitalized.

Scholten said after the campaign was lost, “My two political heroes, Berkley Bedell and Tom Harkin both lost their first race. You haven’t seen the last of J.D. Scholten!”

After King’s victory was wrapped up, he declared “I want to pass the Heartbeat bill in Lame Duck!” He has been a steadfast pro-life politician.
