WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – The Iowa Hawkeyes football team (6‐3, 3‐3) lost at Purdue (5‐4, 4‐2) on Saturday, 38‐36, at Ross‐Ade Stadium.
QB Nate Stanley threw one touchdown pass in the game. It was his 43rd career touchdown pass, tying Matt Sherman for fourth all‐ time in school history. Stanley threw for 275 yards and moved into 10th place in career passing yards (4,511) and career total offense (4,433). Stanley rushed for one touchdown (1 yard), the first of his career.
RG Cole Banwart started for the third time this season, and the first time since Week 2.
FS Jake Gervase’s interception in the third quarter was his second of the season, fifth of his career. Gervase led Iowa with a career‐high 10 tackles.
TE Noah Fant’s 65‐yard reception in the third quarter was Iowa’s longest play of the season. The drive ended in a 4‐yard touchdown pass to TE T.J. Hockenson.
RB Mekhi Sargent had two 1‐yard touchdown rushes in the fourth quarter. He has a team‐high six rushing touchdowns. It was his second career multi‐touchdown game (Northern Iowa). Sargent added four receptions, a career best.
LB Amani Hooker’s interception in the fourth quarter was his third of the season, fifth of his career. The interception resulted in a 1‐yard touchdown rush (Sargent).
K Miguel Recinos scored six points today, raising his career total to 152 and passing Albert Young (150) for No. 19 on Iowa’s all‐time career scoring list. Recinos was perfect on three extra‐point attempts and connected on a 34‐yard field goal attempt. He has made his last 10 field goal attempts dating back to Week 3.
WR Kyle Groeneweg’s 38‐yard punt return in the second quarter was a career long. It led to a 34‐yard field goal by K Miguel Recinos, formerly of Mason City.
The 36 points scored by Iowa were the most points scored in a loss since falling 44‐41 at Iowa State in 2011.
Purdue drove 74 yards for a touchdown on its opening possession. It was the first time this year the Hawkeyes allowed a touchdown on their opponent’s opening drive.
Iowa drove 90 yards for a touchdown on its opening possession. It was Iowa’s second touchdown drive of 90‐plus yards this season (UNI, 92). RB Ivory Kelly‐Martin capped the drive with a two‐yard rushing touchdown. It was Iowa’s first rushing touchdown since Week 5 (fourth quarter at Minnesota).
