MASON CITY – The Mason City Arby’s restaurant was robbed Tuesday night, police say, and they are searching for a male suspect at this time.
The Mason City Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred late Tuesday night at Arbys, 2401 4th Street South West.
Officers responded to the business on October 30th at 10:35 p.m. when an employee called to report that a robbery had just occurred. The suspect was described as a black male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt with a bandana partially covering his face who was armed with a handgun and demanded money. He exited the restaurant by the back door and left in an unknown direction.
There were no customers in the restaurant at the time of the robbery as the business was closed.
Officers searched the area and were assisted by a deputy and K-9 from the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect was not located at that time.
An ambulance was requested to respond to the scene to aid an employee who was suffering from a panic attack.
The department is continuing to follow up on this incident and would ask if anyone has information to contact the Mason City Police Department.
I for one feel it was an inside job and heres why, it was to easy for someone to get in there, store was closed and an employee had a panic attack to go along with the robbery, I’m not Barney Fife but I do know a thing or two. Allstate will cover the loss. Ha ha
Yep, someone should keep an eye on the worker who had a panic attack. Good chance they were the one who made sure the door was either open or unlocked.
If Mason City got a K9 then everyone would bitch about it being a waste of money. How often do they actually need the K9? which is why they borrow from other counties. Not all K9’s are trained the same either. Some do drugs, or bombs, or human…each K9 has a special purpose. Also, if no officer requests to be a K9 handler then that department doesn’t necessarily get one nor need one.

Why would you use a K-9 unit from Mitchell Co. Aren’t there K-9 unit closer? Mawson City is a large enough City. With all the crime etc. here you would think would have one.

Why are we borrowing other Department’s K-9 units? Departments I might add, that are smaller than our own. Think of the time it takes to notify that department, then travel here. By then, the suspect could be long gone.
Mason City used to have a K-9 and officer. The reason or reasons it went away, are worth looking into again.
We are better served with a tool to fight crime, than statues downtown gathering pigeon poop. Oh wait, maybe the statues are “critical” too?

It is a waste of resources, namely city workers who install them. We have enough projects which serve the common good, far more important than those statues.
And the City should by no means, purchase ANY of them. Let private citizens, if they cherish them, purchase them.
