Treasurer Pat Wright says “desperate” opponent Natasha Lewerke “aimed low … hit target”

MASON CITY – The two ladies vying for Treasurer in Cerro Gordo county won’t likely be sitting down to share tea and strumpets anytime soon, as incumbent Pat Wright issued a statement today saying her opponent is hitting below the belt after an explosive NIT interview and other alleged actions.

Wednesday afternoon, incumbent Democratic Treasurer for Cerro Gordo county, Pat Wright, released the following statement:

“The facts plainly show that my desperate opponent has aimed low, and she hit her target. Things like what she’s doing discourage good people from participating in democracy, and that’s sad.”

This statement comes on the heels of a Globe Gazette story published Sunday in which they released possibly hurtful details of emails that were exchanged between Republican Natasha Lewerke and other co-workers in the Treasurer’s Office in 2015. The emails disparaged other co-workers. Mrs. Lewerke, who worked in the Treasurer’s Office for 10 years, claims to have apologized and wants to move on from the email debacle, and said as much in an explosive NIT interview conducted that very evening in which she leveled accusations of her own.

Pressed for detail by NIT on today’s statement, Treasurer Wright was asked “is this statement in connection to Natasha Lewerke’s interview with NIT or something else she has done?”

Treasurer Wright responded, “Both.”

NIT then asked, “Pat, you include the line ‘what she’s doing’ …. this leads me to think present tense … can you describe the current actions of your opponent that you are referencing, please? Has her camp requested public information from the courthouse?”

Treasurer Wright responded, “Matt, Those questions are best answered by Natasha Lewerke.”

Contacted for details, Natasha Lewerke told NIT, “I did 2 radio commercials…only 1 of which has aired. It just hit the radio today. I know that there are a lot of frustrations out there based on her releasing those emails.”

Election night is November 6.  Votes are being taken now at the courthouse.
