MASON CITY – In an interview with NorthIowaToday.com, Natasha Lewerke, a candidate for Cerro Gordo County Treasurer, has apologized for distasteful emails that she sent while an employee in the office for which she seeks to lead, and also leveled allegations of her own about the goings-on there.
This interview is in response to a front-page story in the Sunday Globe Gazette in which emails Mrs. Lewerke sent and traded with other employees in the Treasurer’s Officer were scrutinized. The emails were distasteful, possibly demeaning to other employees and she says, not intended for others to see. The Globe Gazette published the hurtful material, thereby allowing the public – and those who were the subject of the material in those emails – to see and digest the contents.
In the following interview conducted at NIT Headquarters, Mrs. Lewerke meets the email controversy head-on and also levels allegations of possible questionable conduct or performance in the Treasurer’s Office, where she was an employee for 10 years:
Why does everyone hide behind anonymous? What are you all afraid of?
6 months investigated 1500 bullying, discriminating email, divided by 4 weeks in a month , divided by 5 work days= 12.5 discriminating emails EVERY HOUR OF EVERY DAY. This is Lewerke’s way of life it appears…… to bully and discriminate against people… using government work time and computers to do so. IT IS A HUGE LISBILITY TO THE CITY, COUNTY FOR LEWERKE TO BE EMPLOYED THERE. Leaves them wide open for discriminating lawsuits, unsafe work environment. I am surprised the Republicans have not forced her to step down. She needs forced to step down or taken off the ballot. SHE IS A LIABILITY. If she won, the minute she did lawsuits can be filed.
A vile, hateful individual who has the gall not to withdraw from the race.

Journalistic standards would require Matt to disclose his conflict of interest at some point, during the interview or with subsequent articles. But then again journalism is a foreign subject at NIT

More then every hour, every day she has evil thoughts about people ALL DAY LONG !! Very toxic! If she would win if I were one of her victims.. I’d sue the city for hostile work environment or worse. This is a huge liability for the city and city council should ask her to step down immediately.
I’m thinking that she works for the county.
You can expect nothing less than Lewerke’s despicable behavior as she is a Republican…nuff said.
I’m sure the conservatives or abbreviated as “cons” (which is most appropriate) will make feeble attempts to support her as that is their nature. They can’t help being sheep.

I really hope Mrs Lewerke’s DOT supervisor and HR people interview her current co-workers and review her work related correspondence from the last 2 years. It would be a shame to let this happen all over again. Other than Republican die hards, I don’t see too many others rallying around her sinking ship.
She went from one public service cushy job to another. Sure knows how to game the system. IPERS and all the other sweet benefits for her outstanding public service. NOT
It’d be real interesting to see just how many of the Lewerke-support posts originates from the same, single Iowa DOT IP address. I mean, it certainly can be debated if Treasurers office needs new leadership, but after GG made Lewerkes email correspondence public, what, besides a full frontal lobotomy, could make even friends and family think she is suitable for the job?

More than once an hour, every hour for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for at least 6 months? I’m sure there’s more, they just quit looking when they had more than enough evidence to get rid of her.

To date, only a text msg “apology” has been sent to 1 person in the treasurers office. Less than 8 words. This candidate is NOT remorseful, NOT regretful, NOT sincere. Doubtful on the “Christian” part–but thats for another Judge.

you people are dumb as hell. I’ll vote for her as lo n as she isn’t a Democrat. I appreciate that she called far people fat. Fat people deserve to know so they can try to stop grossing out those of us that are skinny and healthy. Lazy people suck and we all have a one at work so to help with lazy people as well. She seems like an honest straight shooter who tells it like it is. Some people can’t handle hearing TRUTH this is a politician who tells it. Good for her. She was a paid employee at the time using a county computer. All those emails therefore belong to us and are public information. Who will step up and make them available to the public. Then we can judge the quality of her character.
